Andy Hayler

The first person to eat at every three-Michelin-star restaurant in the world, reviewing since 1994 and the critic behind andyhayler.com

Food Critic / Author

Andy Hayler is the first person to have eaten at every three-Michelin-star restaurant in the world, a list he first completed in 2004 and kept up to date, as the stars changed, until the pandemic. An independent critic who pays his own bills, he has reviewed restaurants at andyhayler.com since 1994, with a hundred reviews of Tokyo alone drawn from thirteen trips to Japan.

He was a guest critic on the first four series of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals, is restaurant critic for Elite Traveler magazine, wrote The London Transport Restaurant Guide and the Paris section of National Geographic's Food Journeys of a Lifetime, and was the largest contributor to 1001 Restaurants to Experience Before You Die. A WSET Level 3 in wine, he also works in technology and writes on artificial intelligence. On The BEYOND Podcast he explains how Michelin really judges a kitchen, and what any of us can take from the world's best restaurants into our own.
